Harlem Riots of 1943

Hello Everyone. This is Marcela, I am currently taking ENN 195 class with Prof. Rogers-Copper at LaGuardia Community College. In class we staring to talk about the Harlem riots. Today’s blog is to talk about the Harlem riots of 1943. According to many articles the Harlem riots of 1943 was due to a race issue. A wounded African American solider Robert Bandy wanted to know why an African American women was being arrested for disorderly conduct. When he approach the officer and alleged victim he was shot by a white police officer, before this the solider and officer throw a couple punches, because the solider believe the women was being arrested on unfair grounds. All the commotion between the officer and solider lead to a crowd gathering around them and someone miss understood what was going on. They believe that the officer shot and killed Bandy, and a riot erupted which was held for two days. Many people were left injured and some die, there was a lot of property damage. All this lead to New York City Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia go to the scene to restore order.
